Poetry

Evolution

by Murray Sheldermine

I feel no pain
I feel no fear
I seek the truth
Relentlessly.

And yet I steal
And cheat
And would commit murder
Rape
Or theft
If I felt it became necessary.

And yet I love
And strive for beauty
And wish to help
Those close to me.

In the end no-one
Can guide me
Or judge me
No-one can prevent me
Doing what I decide to do.

If there is anything better than us
It’s keeping awfully quiet.

Look out
Here I come.
