Poetry

Selves Into Self

by Stuart Greenstreet

When I scan my eighty years
all my younger selves appear,
each one different from the rest.
This makes me wish to know
what links them to my self now.

But wait. Let’s think about links.
Links in a chain connect one another.
Nothing ties them.
We see a chain as one thing,
not many lonely links.
Variations of me
could likewise be
A concatenated unity.
